Top dental tips for teens

July 6, 2015 by bridgeways
  1. Brush your teeth last thing at night and at least one other time during the day, with any fluoride toothpaste of your choice. Use a toothbrush with a small to medium sized brush head which has soft to medium bristles. Brush for 2 minutes. You can download tooth brushing timer apps on your mobile phones etc. We recommend using an electric toothbrush.
  2. If you have sugary food and drinks try to limit this to mealtimes.
  3. Visit your dental team at least once a year, or as often as they recommend .
  4. Clean in between your teeth with interdental brushes or floss at least once a day to help remove food and plaque from between your teeth.
  5. You may choose to use a mouthwash to freshen your breath .
  6. If you have fizzy drinks use a straw. This helps the drink go to the back of your mouth and therefore reduces the number of acid attacks on your teeth.
  7. Wait for at least one hour after eating or drinking anything acidic before brushing your teeth.
  8. Choose sugar free gum after eating to help make more saliva and counteract the acids which form in your mouth after eating.
